Why is it important to learn to breathe?

That's why we'll provide you with valuable information that will help you gain the knowledge and put it into practice in your training so you can achieve:

  1.     Have better performance.
  2.     Have a good recovery.
  3.     Have an excellent connection with the body.
  4.     Recognize and control the wear and tear you experience when exercising.

The first thing we are going to do is help you understand where you are through a simple test, which we recently taught you. Fernando Jibaja Du Bois, a psychology graduate and breathing specialist. This test will help you become more aware and internalize the importance of breathing, helping you become much more efficient.

The first exercise in the test we're going to do is an apnea, but what is an apnea? It's a pause in breathing of at least 10 seconds, or in simpler terms, holding your breath for several seconds.

Having control over your breathing will also help you improve concentration, well-being, and give you greater serenity when practicing sports.

Test:

Inhale, hold, and measure

What we're going to do is inhale, hold your breath as long as you can, and measure how long you last without breathing, without putting yourself at risk. It's just a preliminary test.

To begin, you'll need to have a stopwatch handy; take a deep breath and hold it as long as you can.

Once you start holding your breath, start the stopwatch and count how many seconds you can hold it without exhaling.

How many seconds did you last?

Some people last 10 seconds, others 20, 30, 40, etc. To help you better understand the test, we'll tell you that the longer you can hold your breath, the greater the chance of improving your race times or improving your athletic efficiency and physical capacity.

The average time for a normal athlete is 39-59 seconds, and if we talk about high-performance athletes, it's between 70-89 seconds, my God, almost a minute and a half!

How are you doing compared to the average?

Don't worry, you'll see how your breathing improves as you become more aware of it.
