How to eat before a 10k race?

What is the recommended meal before the race?

  1. It should be rich in white bread, fruits, cereals, among others.
  2. The protein content should be light, therefore, low in fat and digestible; for example, turkey, fresh cheese, among others.
  3. Avoid fatty foods at all costs, as they can slow down your digestion.
  4. Spicy foods should be left out, as well as those with a high fiber content.
  5. Drink two or three glasses of water, or failing that, an isotonic drink 30 to 60 minutes beforehand to maintain hydration.

Some examples of combinations are:

  • Foods rich in honey, banana or oats.
  • White bread accompanied by turkey and, in addition, an apple.
  • Strawberries accompanied by dates.

Don't forget that the nutrition you choose, especially when preparing for a race, will give you the ability to recover not only during training but also after the race. Although a 10k race isn't as high-level as a marathon, it's still important to consider proper nutrition; we assure you, this way you won't suffer.
